The West Avenue Church Of Christ began October 22, 1950, when 115 Christians formally agreed to work together as a New Testament Church. By previous tentative agreement, a building fund was started, lots purchased at the corners of West Avenue and Sherwood Drive, and a modest concrete-block building was constructed. By the end of 1950, West Avenue had grown to 180 members, and out of necessity for this growing family, a larger auditorium was constructed in 1956.

West Avenue Church Of Christ was established as a New Testament church and that is exactly what we, as members, strive to accomplish. Our chief desire is to "walk in the light" and thus have fellowship with God (1 John 1:1-7). If you are interested in simple New Testament Christianity, divinely authorized work and worship, "speaking where the Bible speaks and remaining silent where the Bible is silent," you will find kindred spirits at West Avenue. If we walk in God's light together, hand-in-hand, we will be true brothers and sisters in God's family.
